Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the New York strip steak out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps in even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with olive oil, then season generously with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper on both sides.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Pan

Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy frying pan over high heat until very hot.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the steak in the hot skillet and sear for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it. Flip the steak and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Add Butter and Herbs

In the last minute of cooking, add butter and fresh rosemary to the pan. Spoon the melted butter over the steak for added flavor.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

  7. 7

    Serve

Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately.
