For the Onion Rings

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the cold sparkling water until you achieve a smooth batter.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.

  5. 5

    Fry the Rings

Fry the onion rings for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  6. 6

    Season and Serve

While the onion rings are still hot, sprinkle them with Togarashi seasoning and Goma shio. Serve immediately.
