For the Onion Rings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the cold sparkling water until you achieve a smooth batter.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- 5
- 6
Season and Serve
While the onion rings are still hot, sprinkle them with Togarashi seasoning and Goma shio. Serve immediately.
