Cake Preparation

Melt Chocolate and Butter
Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a saucepan of simmering water or in the microwave, stirring until smooth.

Mix Sugar and Eggs
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and large eggs until the mixture is light and fluffy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.

Add Dry Ingredients
Sift the all-purpose flour and salt into the chocolate mixture. Add the vanilla extract and fold gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fill and Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.

Cool Slightly
Remove from the oven and let the cakes sit for about 1 minute before inverting them onto plates.

Carefully place the molten lava cake on a dessert plate.

Top each cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
