Fried Pickles

Black Pepper Horseradish Dipping Sauce

Method

Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the dill pickles and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  6. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice in the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place it in the hot oil. Fry in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Black Pepper Horseradish Dipping Sauce

  1. 8

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, prepared horseradish, black pepper, lemon juice, and garlic powder until smooth.

  2. 9

    Chill the Sauce

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

  3. 10

    Serve with Fried Pickles

Serve the chilled dipping sauce alongside the hot fried pickles for dipping.
