Pasta Preparation
Cook the Spaghetti
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.
Add 12 oz of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
Drain the spaghetti and set aside, keeping warm.
Meatball Preparation
Make the Meatball Mixture
In a large bowl, combine 1 lb of ground beef, 1 cup of bread crumbs, 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper.
Mix all ingredients together until well combined.
Form Meatballs
Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter.
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
Add 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Stir in 28 oz of canned crushed tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sugar.
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the sauce for an additional 10 minutes.
Assembly
Combine and Serve
Serve the cooked spaghetti topped with the meatballs and marinara sauce.
Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese and parsley, if desired.
