Method
Whisky and Glassware
Chill glass (optional)
If you prefer a slightly cooler drink, place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the whisky, then discard the water and dry the glass.
Add ice
Place one large ice cube or sphere into the chilled or room-temperature rocks glass. A single large cube slows dilution and keeps the whisky colder for longer.
Measure and pour whisky
Measure 2 oz Talisker 10-year and pour it over the ice cube. Hold the bottle steady and pour close to the surface to minimize splashing and preserve aromas.
Optional water adjustment
If you want to open the whisky's aromas and soften the alcohol heat, add 0.25 oz (roughly a teaspoon and a half) of water. Add incrementally: stir gently with a bar spoon after adding small amounts and taste until the balance suits you.
Garnish (optional)
Sea salt finish
If you'd like a saline contrast that echoes Talisker's coastal character, sprinkle a very light pinch of sea salt flakes on the whisky's surface or directly on the orange peel before dropping it in. Taste to judge — a little goes a long way.
