Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Select a rocks glass (old fashioned glass). If you prefer a slightly chilled glass, add ice to the glass to cool it while you prepare the cocktail, then discard the ice before serving.

2

Build or stir

Add 2 oz bourbon, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir briskly for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (about 20% dilution is typical for spirit-forward cocktails).

3

Strain

Discard the chilling ice from the serving glass (if used). Strain the chilled cocktail into the rocks glass over a large ice cube or sphere.

4

Garnish

Express the oils of the orange peel over the drink by holding the peel with the outside facing down over the glass and giving it a firm twist. Rub the peel around the rim, then drop the peel into the glass as garnish.
