Coffee Grain Cocktail

Method

Coffee Grain Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Chill an old-fashioned glass by placing it in the freezer for a few minutes or filling it with ice water while you build the cocktail.

2

Measure and combine

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker (no ice yet), pour 2 oz Nikka Coffey Grain whisky, 1 oz cold-brew coffee concentrate, 0.5 oz coffee liqueur, and 0.25 oz demerara simple syrup.

3

Add bitters

Add 2 dashes of cardamom-infused bitters (or 2 dashes Angostura plus a light pinch of ground cardamom) to the mixing glass.

4

Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir gently for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted (about 15–20% dilution). Stirring preserves clarity and texture.

5

Prepare serving glass

Discard ice or water from the chilled old-fashioned glass. Place one large ice cube or sphere in the glass.

6

Strain

Double-strain (or fine-strain) the mixed cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube to remove any small ice chips or cardamom sediment.

7

Express orange oil

Take the orange peel and hold it skin-side down over the glass. Give it a firm twist to express the oils across the surface of the cocktail, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.

8

Garnish

If desired, float two whole coffee beans on top for aroma and presentation.

9

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the interplay of the Coffey Grain whisky's sweet, grain-forward profile with coffee and warm spice notes.
