Whole Milk

Method

Whole Milk

1

Chill and serve

Store whole milk in the refrigerator at 37–40°F (3–4°C). Pour 1 cup (240 ml) into a clean glass directly from the carton or bottle. Taste plain or sweeten with 1 tsp honey or sugar if desired. Stir gently to dissolve the sweetener.

2

Warm for drinking

Pour 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk into a small saucepan. Warm over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches 120–130°F (49–54°C) — about 3–5 minutes. Do not boil. Remove from heat and pour into a cup. Sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon on top if desired.

3

Foam for coffee (optional)

Heat 1 cup whole milk to 140°F (60°C). Use a milk frother or whip with a small whisk/immersion blender for 20–30 seconds until microfoam forms. Spoon foam onto coffee or use directly in beverages.

Non‑Fat Milk

4

Chill and serve

Keep non‑fat milk refrigerated at 37–40°F (3–4°C). Pour 1 cup (240 ml) into a clean glass from the container. Taste plain or add 1 tsp vanilla extract for flavor. Stir to combine.

5

Make chocolate skim

Pour 1 cup (240 ml) non‑fat milk into a glass. Add 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 tsp sugar or sweetener. Whisk briskly or shake in a sealed jar until cocoa is fully dissolved and the drink is smooth.

6

Warm for recipes

If a warm non‑fat milk is required for a recipe, heat 1 cup (240 ml) gently in a saucepan over low heat until steaming (do not boil), about 2–3 minutes. Use immediately in the recipe.

7

Frothing notes

Non‑fat milk produces larger, stiffer foam. To froth, heat to 140°F (60°C) and use a frother or vigorous whisking for 30–45 seconds. Expect larger bubbles compared with whole milk.
