Choose glass

Select a Glencairn glass for nosing or a heavy-bottomed tumbler for casual drinking. Ensure the glass is clean and at room temperature.

Measure whisky

Pour 2 oz (approximately 60 ml) of The Glenlivet 12 Year Old into the glass. This is a standard single serving (a 'dram').

Decide on dilution

If you prefer the whisky neat, do nothing further. To open aromas and soften alcohol, add 1 tsp (about 5 ml) of room-temperature water to the whisky. Add the water dropwise and smell between additions to find your preferred balance.

Add ice (optional)

If you prefer chilled whisky, add 1–3 large ice cubes. Large cubes melt slower and dilute less, preserving flavor. Allow the whisky to sit 30–60 seconds after ice to reach serving temperature.

Garnish (optional)

For a subtle citrus accent, express an orange peel over the glass by holding the peel with the outer side facing down, give it a quick twist to spray oils over the surface, then drop or rest the twist on the rim.

Nose and sip

Bring the glass to your nose and inhale gently to take in the fruity, floral, and honeyed notes characteristic of The Glenlivet 12. Take small sips, allowing the spirit to coat your tongue; pause and breathe through your nose to appreciate finish and texture. If desired, experiment with an additional small splash of water to see how the profile changes.

Storage note

After serving, reseal the bottle and store upright in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight to preserve character.
