Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

Cook Fettuccine
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta in a colander.
Making the Alfredo Sauce

Melt Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the unsalted butter and let it melt completely.

Add Heavy Cream
Pour in the heavy cream and increase the heat slightly. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently.

Incorporate Parmesan
Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy.

Season the Sauce
Add salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning as necessary.
Combining Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained fettuccine to the skillet with the Alfredo sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
