Calamari

Marinara Sauce

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Clean the calamari by removing the head, innards, and skin. Rinse under cold water and slice into rings.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In one bowl, mix together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In another bowl, beat the eggs. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.

  3. 3

    Bread the Calamari

Dredge each calamari ring in the flour mixture, dip in the beaten eggs, and then coat with breadcrumbs. Set aside on a plate.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Add crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, sugar, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
