Calzone Filling
Method
Preparation
Prepare the Filling
In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, tomato sauce, fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
Roll Out the Dough
On a floured surface, roll out your pizza dough into a circle about 10-12 inches in diameter.
Fill the Calzone
Spoon the ricotta mixture onto one half of the dough circle, leaving about an inch of border around the edge.
Seal the Calzone
Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
Prepare for Baking
Transfer the calzone to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with olive oil and make a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape.
Bake
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and bake the calzone for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve
Allow the calzone to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with additional tomato sauce on the side for dipping.
