Onion Rings

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into thin rings, about 1/4 inch thick. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.

  3. 3

    Add the Sparkling Water

Gradually add the cold sparkling water to the dry ingredients while whisking until you achieve a smooth, thick batter. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature using a thermometer or by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

  5. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off, and carefully place them into the hot oil.

  6. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Fry the onion rings in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once crispy, remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
