Corn Dog

Method

Corn Dog

  1. 1

    Prepare the Hot Dogs

Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, pushing it in about halfway to create a handle.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick enough to coat the hot dogs.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Coat the Hot Dogs

Dip each skewer with a hot dog into the batter, making sure to coat it completely. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  6. 6

    Fry the Corn Dogs

Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with mustard, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.
