Alfredo Sauce

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook Fettuccine

Add 12 oz of fettuccine to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the fettuccine in a colander and set aside. Reserve a cup of pasta water for later use if needed.

Making Alfredo Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 cup of butter.

  2. 5

    Add Cream and Garlic

Once the butter is melted, add 1 cup of heavy cream and 2 tablespoons of minced garlic. Stir well and let simmer for 2-3 minutes.

  3. 6

    Incorporate Cheese

Gradually whisk in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese until smooth. The sauce should thicken slightly.

  4. 7

    Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of black pepper and 1 teaspoon of salt. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Cooking Shrimp (optional)

  1. 8

    Prepare Shrimp

In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Season 1 lb of peeled and deveined shrimp with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 9

    Cook Shrimp

Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove from heat.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 10

    Combine Fettuccine and Sauce

Add the drained fettuccine to the sauce in the saucepan. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.

  2. 11

    Add Shrimp (if using)

If you cooked shrimp, add them to the pasta and sauce mixture. Toss gently to combine.

  3. 12

    Serve

Serve the Fettuccine Alfredo warm, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and black pepper if desired.
