Preparation of Bread
- 1
Slice the Bread
Using a serrated knife, slice the French baguette into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Brush both sides of each slice with olive oil. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and place the slices on a baking sheet. Toast for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
Preparation of Topping
- 3
Chop the Tomatoes
Dice the ripe tomatoes into small pieces and place them in a mixing bowl.
- 4
Prepare the Basil
Stack the fresh basil leaves, roll them tightly, and slice them into thin ribbons (chiffonade). Add to the bowl with the tomatoes.
- 5
Mince the Garlic
Peel and mince the garlic cloves. Add them to the bowl with the tomatoes and basil.
- 6
Combine Ingredients
Add balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper (to taste) to the tomato mixture. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
Assembly
- 7
Top the Bread
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread.
- 8
