Ingredients for French Fries

Method

Instructions for Making French Fries

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. This will help achieve crispy fries.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  4. 4

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of potato strips to the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the French fries hot, with your favorite dipping sauces.
