Filling Preparation

1

Cook the Meat or Cheese Filling

In a skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until softened. If using meat, add the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Cook until the meat is browned. If using cheese, mix the cheese with salt and chopped parsley. Remove from heat and let cool.

Dough Preparation

2

Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Cover with a cloth and let rest for 30 minutes.

Assembly and Baking

3

Assemble the Burek

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle. Place a portion of the filling in the center of each circle, fold over, and seal the edges with your fingers or a fork. Brush the top with beaten egg.

4

Bake

Place the burek on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
