Method

Preparation of Shrimp

  1. 1

    Butterfly the Shrimp

Start by peeling and deveining the shrimp. Make a shallow cut along the back of each shrimp without cutting all the way through, then gently open them up to form a butterfly shape.

  2. 2

    Season the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over the butterflied shrimp and set aside to marinate for about 15 minutes.

Breading Process

  1. 3

    Prepare the Breading Stations

Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs.

  2. 4

    Bread the Shrimp

Dredge each seasoned shrimp in the flour, shaking off any excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

Frying the Shrimp

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat cooking oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the breaded shrimp into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sides

While the shrimp are frying, prepare French fries according to package instructions and serve coleslaw in a bowl.

  2. 8

    Serve

Plate the fried shrimp alongside the French fries and coleslaw. Offer cocktail sauce and tartar sauce on the side for dipping.
