For the French Dip Sandwich

For the Au Jus

Method

Preparing the Au Jus

  1. 1

    Make the Au Jus

In a medium saucepan, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Preparing the Sandwich

  1. 2

    Sauté the Onions

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, sprinkle with salt, and sauté until they are caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

  2. 3

    Assemble the Sandwich

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Layer thin slices of roast beef inside each roll, followed by the sautéed onions and a slice of provolone cheese.

  3. 4

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches on a baking sheet and put them in the preheated oven. Bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  4. 5

    Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the oven and serve them warm with the hot Au Jus on the side for dipping.
