Pretzel Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.

Make Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth.

Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Pretzel Shaping and Baking

Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Shape Pretzels
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and shape into a pretzel.

Boil Pretzels
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then transfer to the baking sheet.

Bake Pretzels
Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse sea salt and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
