Method
Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
- 2
Apply the Rub
Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well coated. Cover the pork and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- 3
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar and water over the pork. Cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and let it rest for 15 minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.
- 5
Mix with BBQ Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with BBQ sauce, allowing it to heat through for about 10 minutes.
Sandwich Assembly
- 6
Prepare the Buns
Lightly toast the burger buns on a grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
- 7
Assemble the Sandwich
Place a generous portion of the pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and cover with the top half of the bun.
- 8
Serve
Serve the pulled pork sandwiches warm with additional BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
