Method
Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks.
- 2
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork pieces.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Place the chopped onion and garlic cloves at the bottom of a slow cooker. Add the seasoned pork to the slow cooker and pour apple cider vinegar over the top. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreddable.
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix in the BBQ sauce. Let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to heat through.
Coleslaw Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Vegetables
Shred the green cabbage and carrots using a grater or food processor.
- 6
Make the Dressing
In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
- 7
Combine Slaw
Add the shredded cabbage and carrots to the dressing and toss until evenly coated. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Assembly
- 8
Assemble the Sandwiches
Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Pile a generous amount of BBQ pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun, followed by a scoop of coleslaw. Top with the other half of the bun and serve.
