Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Peeling and Boiling

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into quarters. Place them in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Mashing

Drain the potatoes and let them cool slightly. Mash them in a large bowl until smooth.

  3. 3

    Mixing Ingredients

Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cornstarch, and the egg to the mashed potatoes. Mix well until fully combined.

Forming Tater Tots

  1. 4

    Shaping

Using your hands, take small portions of the potato mixture and form them into small cylindrical shapes resembling tater tots.

  2. 5

    Coating

In a shallow dish, combine breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. Roll each tater tot in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.

Frying

  1. 6

    Heating Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Frying Tater Tots

Carefully add tater tots to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 8

    Draining

Remove the tater tots with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Repeat with remaining tots.

Serving

  1. 9
