Method

Biscuit Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add the unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Add Buttermilk

Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Shape Biscuits

On a lightly floured surface, turn out the dough and gently pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

  6. 6

    Bake Biscuits

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Sausage Gravy Preparation

  1. 7

    Cook Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the pork sausage until browned and cooked through.

  2. 8

    Make Roux

Sprinkle the 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour over the cooked sausage. Stir well to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes.

  3. 9

    Add Milk

Gradually pour in the milk while continuously stirring to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 10

    Season the Gravy

Add black pepper and salt to taste. Allow the gravy to simmer for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.
