Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

Incorporate Boiling Water
Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin, this is normal.

Bake the Cakes
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.
Frosting Preparation

Beat Butter
In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy and smooth.

Add Cocoa and Sugar
Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until incorporated.

Add Milk and Vanilla
Add the whole milk and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until the frosting is fluffy and spreadable.
Assemble the Cake

Frost the First Layer
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top.

Add Second Layer
Place the second cake layer on top of the frosted first layer.

Frost the Top and Sides
Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.
