Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, rye flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cocoa powder.
- 3
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Add the frothy yeast mixture and vegetable oil into the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Punch down the risen dough and split it into two equal portions. Add cocoa powder to one portion and knead until well combined.
- 7
Form the Loaf
Roll both portions into logs and twist them together. Place the marbled dough into a greased loaf pan.
- 8
Second Rise
Cover the loaf pan with a cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- 9
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 10
Bake the Bread
Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- 11
Cool and Serve
Remove the bread from the oven, let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
