Bread and Seasoning

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Bread

Punch down the risen dough, then shape it into a loaf or rolls. Place on a baking sheet or in a loaf pan.

  7. 7

    Second Rise

Cover again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.

  8. 8

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  9. 9

    Bake

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. If using, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top during the last 5 minutes of baking.

  10. 10

    Cool and Serve

Remove the bread from the oven, let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
