Prawns

Prawn Shoyu Gravy

Method

Prawns Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Prawns

Rinse the Kauai prawns under cold running water, removing any debris. Pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Season the Prawns

In a bowl, toss the cleaned prawns with olive oil, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.

Cooking the Prawns

  1. 3

    Pan Fry the Prawns

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned prawns and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are cooked through.

Prawn Shoyu Gravy

  1. 4

    Prepare the Gravy

In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Thicken the Gravy

In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to make a slurry. Slowly whisk it into the simmering sauce until it thickens, about 2-3 minutes.

  3. 6

    Add Green Onions

Chop the green onions and stir them into the gravy. Remove from heat.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

On a serving platter, arrange the cooked prawns. Drizzle the prawn shoyu gravy over them.

  2. 8

    Garnish

Top with fresh watercress and sprinkle crispy garlic chips over the prawns for added crunch.
