Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Red Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembling the Flatbread

  1. 7

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

  2. 8

    Shape Dough

Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a rectangle or your desired shape.

  3. 9

    Add Sauce

Transfer the shaped dough onto a piece of parchment paper. Spread a layer of the red sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

  4. 10

    Add Cheeses

Sprinkle the Parmesan, smoked gouda, and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the sauce.

  5. 11

    Add Toppings

Top with cooked and crumbled spicy Italian sausage, sliced roasted red peppers, and drizzle with hot honey.

  6. 12

    Bake Flatbread

Carefully slide the flatbread (with parchment) onto the heated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  7. 13

    Garnish

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Before serving, sprinkle with torn basil leaves.
