Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the Harris Ranch Tomahawk Steak from the refrigerator and allow it to come to room temperature for about 1 hour before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the steak with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub the seasoning into the meat to ensure it adheres well.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat, around 450°F to 500°F (232°C to 260°C). If using a charcoal grill, ensure the coals are hot and glowing.

  2. 4

    Sear the Steak

Brush the steak lightly with olive oil and place it on the hot grill. Sear the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side, developing a nice crust.

  3. 5

    Cook to Desired Doneness

After searing, move the steak to a cooler part of the grill or reduce the heat to medium. Cook until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, 160°F for medium-well). Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.

  4. 6

    Add Aromatics (Optional)

In the last few minutes of cooking, add fresh rosemary and thyme directly on top of the steak. If using, place butter on top of the herbs to melt into the steak.

Resting and Serving

  1. 7

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest on a cutting board for about 10-15 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute.

  2. 8

    Slice and Serve

Slice the steak against the grain into thick slices and serve with your favorite sides or sauces.
