Method

Preparation of Topping

  1. 1

    Chop the Tomatoes

Dice the fresh tomatoes into small cubes and place them in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Basil

Rinse the fresh basil leaves under cold water, pat them dry, and then chop them roughly. Add to the bowl with the tomatoes.

  3. 3

    Mince the Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and mince them finely. Add to the mixing bowl.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the tomato mixture. Add salt and black pepper to taste, then gently toss everything together until well combined.

Toasting the Bread

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 6

    Slice the Bread

Cut the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.

  3. 7

    Arrange on Baking Sheet

Place the bread slices on a baking sheet in a single layer.

  4. 8

    Toast the Bread

Toast the bread in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp. Flip halfway through for even toasting.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Top the Bread

Remove the toasted bread from the oven and let it cool slightly. Spoon the prepared tomato topping generously onto each slice of toasted bread.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve immediately while the bread is warm, garnished with additional basil leaves if desired.
