Mozzarella Sticks Preparation
1. Prepare the Cheese
If the mozzarella sticks are not already cut, cut the mozzarella cheese into 12 equal sticks, each about 4 inches long.
2. Set Up the Breading Station
In three separate bowls, place the all-purpose flour in the first bowl, beat the eggs in the second bowl, and combine the bread crumbs, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.
3. Bread the Mozzarella Sticks
Dredge each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with the seasoned bread crumbs. Ensure each stick is well coated and place them on a baking sheet.
4. Freeze the Sticks
Place the coated mozzarella sticks in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to firm up, which helps prevent them from becoming too gooey during frying.
Marinara Sauce Preparation
5. Cook the Sauce
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
6. Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
7. Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Frying Mozzarella Sticks
8. Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. It should reach about 350°F (175°C).
9. Fry the Sticks
Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.
10. Drain and Serve
Once golden brown, remove the mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
