Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Ribeye

Pat the ribeye steak dry with paper towels. This helps to get a good sear. Season both sides generously with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  2. 2

    Marinate (Optional)

If you have time, let the seasoned steak sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This can enhance the flavor and tenderness.

Grilling

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to high heat, about 450-500°F (232-260°C). If using a charcoal grill, make sure to have a hot side and a cooler side for indirect cooking.

  2. 4

    Oil the Grill Grates

Using a paper towel dipped in olive oil, carefully wipe down the grill grates to prevent sticking.

  3. 5

    Grill the Steak

Place the ribeye steak on the hot grill. Grill for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to achieve good grill marks.

  4. 6

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak over and grill for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting the time if you prefer it more cooked.

  5. 7

    Check for Doneness

    Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature: 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare, 140°F (60°C) for medium, and 150°F (65°C) for medium-well.

Resting

  1. 8

    Rest the Steak

Once the steak reaches your desired doneness, remove it from the grill and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 9

    Slice and Serve

Slice the ribeye against the grain and serve immediately. Enjoy your perfectly grilled ribeye steak!
