Preparation Steps
- 1
Muddle Mint Leaves
In a sturdy glass or a julep cup, place the fresh mint leaves. Using a muddler or the back of a spoon, gently press the mint leaves to release their essential oils. Be careful not to shred the leaves; you want to release the flavor without creating bits of mint in your drink.
- 2
Add Simple Syrup
Pour the simple syrup over the muddled mint leaves. This will help to further release the mint oils and add sweetness to your drink.
- 3
Add Bourbon
Measure and pour the bourbon into the glass with the muddled mint and simple syrup mixture.
- 4
Fill with Ice
Fill the glass with crushed ice, packing it gently but firmly to create a nice mound on top.
- 5
Stir and Garnish
Using a spoon or straw, gently stir the mixture to combine the flavors. Garnish with a sprig of mint on top for aroma and presentation. You can also tap the mint sprig before placing it in the drink to release more oils.
