Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ginger

Peel and slice the fresh ginger root into thin pieces. You should have about 2 cups of sliced ginger.

  2. 2

    Measure Other Ingredients

Measure out 1 cup of lemon juice, 1 cup of honey, and 4 cups of water. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil the Ingredients

In a large saucepan, add the sliced ginger, water, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 4

    Simmer the Mixture

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 20 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

  3. 5

    Strain the Liquid

After 20 minutes, remove the saucepan from heat and strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl to remove the ginger and spices.

  4. 6

    Mix in Lemon and Honey

While the liquid is still warm, add the lemon juice and honey to the strained ginger infusion. Stir until the honey is fully dissolved.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Warm or Chill

You can serve this drink warm, or refrigerate it and serve it over ice for a refreshing cold beverage.

  2. 8

    Garnish (Optional)

Garnish each glass with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint, if desired.
