Pizza Base and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add olive oil, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- 2
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 3
- 4
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (usually around 475°F or 245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 5
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion on a floured surface into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 6
Add Toppings
Spread a thin layer of the crushed tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute evenly on top. Add fresh basil leaves.
- 7
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the hot pizza stone or a baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. Drizzle with olive oil before serving.
- 8
Serve
Slice the pizza and serve hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
