Pasta

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

Fill a large pot with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring it to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook the Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. You can drizzle a little olive oil to prevent sticking if desired.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté the Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  3. 6

    Brown the Meat

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 6-8 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

  6. 9

    Combine and Serve

Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti and top with grated Parmesan cheese.
