Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes. The batter will be thick.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well combined. It will be quite thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Directions

  1. 8

    Beat the Butter

In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter with an electric mixer until creamy and smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined.

  3. 10

    Add Milk and Vanilla

Add the milk and vanilla extract, then beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  4. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
