Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, semolina, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Yogurt and Water

Add the yogurt and gradually pour in the warm water. Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.

  3. 3

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into equal small balls (about the size of a golf ball).

  5. 5

    Roll the Dough

On a floured surface, roll each ball into a round disc about 6 inches in diameter.

  6. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until hot.

  7. 7

    Fry the Pooris/Baturas

Carefully slide one rolled disc into the hot oil. Fry until it puffs up and turns golden brown, about 30-45 seconds on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve hot with your favorite curry or chutney.
