Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water while kneading the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Incorporate oil or ghee into the dough and knead for another minute.

  2. 2

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This helps in making the parathas softer.

  3. 3

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).

  4. 4

    Roll the Parathas

On a lightly floured surface, take one dough ball and flatten it with your fingers. Using a rolling pin, roll it out into a circle of about 6-8 inches in diameter.

  5. 5

    Cook the Paratha

Preheat the tandoor or a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the rolled paratha on the hot surface and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly puffed.

  6. 6

    Butter the Paratha

Once cooked, remove from heat and brush the paratha with melted butter or ghee while it's still warm. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve warm with your choice of curry or yogurt.
