Method

Cooking Orzo

  1. 1

    Cook the Orzo

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the orzo according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Prepare the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.

  2. 3

    Add Cheese

Reduce the heat to low and add the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the cheeses are melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining and Baking

  1. 4

    Combine Orzo and Cheese Sauce

Add the cooked orzo to the cheese sauce and mix until well coated.

  2. 5

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the orzo and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

  3. 6

    Add Toppings

In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and paprika. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top of the orzo.

  4. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
