Sushi Rice

Spicy Sesame Butter Sauce

Method

Preparing Sushi Rice

  1. 1

    Cook the Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rinsed rice and water in a rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. 2

    Season the Rice

Once cooked, transfer the rice to a large bowl. In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour this mixture over the warm rice and gently mix to combine. Allow to cool.

Making the Filling

  1. 3

    Prepare the Ingredients

Dice the fresh tuna, slice the avocado, and julienne the cucumber. Set aside.

Preparing Spicy Sesame Butter Sauce

  1. 4

    Make the Sauce

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the sesame oil, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce, and lime juice. Cook for 2-3 minutes until heated through. Set aside.

Assembling the Maki

  1. 5

    Roll the Maki

On a bamboo sushi mat, lay a sheet of nori. Spread a thin layer of sushi rice over the nori, leaving a small border at the top. Arrange the diced tuna, avocado slices, cucumber strips, and chopped macadamia nuts in a line along the bottom of the rice-covered nori. Roll tightly using the mat, sealing the edge with a little water.

Serving

  1. 6

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice the rolled maki into 6-8 pieces. Drizzle the spicy sesame butter sauce over the top and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately.
