Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Sprinkle the ribeye steak with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides. Rub the spices into the meat for better flavor.

  2. 2

    Heat the Pan

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it's shimmering but not smoking.

  3. 3

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned ribeye steak in the hot skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip it.

  4. 4

    Add Butter and Rosemary

After flipping, add the butter and sprig of rosemary to the pan. Baste the steak with melted butter using a spoon for additional flavor.

  5. 5

    Check Doneness

Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer depending on your preferred doneness. Use a meat thermometer if available (130°F for medium-rare).

  6. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute.

Mashed Potatoes Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and chop the russet potatoes into equal-sized chunks for even cooking.

  2. 8

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the chopped potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

  3. 9

    Drain and Mash

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Use a potato masher or fork to mash the potatoes until smooth.

  4. 10

    Add Ingredients

Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper to the mashed potatoes. Mix until creamy and well combined.

  5. 11

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the mashed potatoes and adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if needed.
