Method

Preparation of Topping

  1. 1

    Chop the Tomatoes

Wash and dice the ripe tomatoes into small cubes. Place them in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Add Basil and Season

Chop the fresh basil leaves and add them to the tomatoes. Pour in the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything gently to combine. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

Preparing the Bread

  1. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 4

    Slice the Bread

Slice the French bread or baguette into ½-inch thick slices.

  3. 5

    Toast the Bread

Place the slices on a baking sheet and lightly brush one side with olive oil. Toast in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown. Optionally, you can turn the slices halfway through for even toasting.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare Garlic

While the bread is toasting, peel the garlic cloves and cut them in half.

  2. 7

    Rub Garlic on Bread

Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and immediately rub the cut side of the garlic on each slice for a hint of garlic flavor.

  3. 8

    Top with Tomato Mixture

Spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously onto each toasted bread slice. Serve immediately.
