Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, combine the unsalted butter and semisweet chocolate. Heat over low heat, stirring until both are completely melted and smooth. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and large egg yolks until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to combine. Add in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, mixing well.

  5. 5

    Add Flour

Gently fold in the all-purpose flour until just combined. Do not overmix.

  6. 6

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking. Place them on a baking sheet for easier handling.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  8. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool for 1 minute, then carefully invert onto plates. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
