Bruschetta Topping

Method

Prepare the Topping

  1. 1

    Chop the Tomatoes

Dice the ripe tomatoes into small pieces and place them in a mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Add the Basil

Chop the fresh basil leaves and add them to the bowl with the diced tomatoes.

  3. 3

    Mince the Garlic

Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the tomato and basil mixture.

  4. 4

    Mix the Ingredients

Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the mixture. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Gently toss all ingredients together until well combined.

Toast the Bread

  1. 5

    Slice the Bread

Slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.

  2. 6

    Brush with Olive Oil

Brush one side of each slice with extra virgin olive oil.

  3. 7

    Toast the Bread

Preheat a grill or oven broiler to medium-high heat. Place the slices of bread, oiled side down, on the grill or a baking sheet. Toast for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Assemble the Bruschetta

  1. 8

    Top the Toasted Bread

Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Spoon the tomato basil mixture generously over the toasted side of each slice.

  2. 9

    Serve Immediately

Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
