Method

BBQ Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the BBQ Sauce

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Simmer the Sauce

Stir the mixture well and bring it to a gentle simmer. Cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.

Burger Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Beef Patties

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form into four equal patties.

  2. 4

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon strips until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Leave some bacon fat in the skillet.

  3. 5

    Grill the Onions

Slice the onion into rings and add to the skillet with the reserved bacon fat. Sauté over medium heat until golden brown and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 6

    Grill the Beef Patties

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of smoked cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.

  5. 7

    Assemble the Burgers

Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill. Spread a generous amount of the homemade BBQ sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place the beef patty with melted cheese on top, followed by crispy bacon strips and grilled onions. Top with the other half of the bun.
