Method
Tofu Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Start by pressing the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
Once pressed, cut the tofu into sticks approximately 1/2 inch thick.
- 3
Prepare the Coating
In a bowl, mix together the cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined.
- 4
Coat the Tofu
Toss the tofu sticks in the cornstarch mixture until fully coated. Shake off any excess cornstarch.
- 5
Fry the Tofu
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated tofu sticks. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
BBQ Sauce
- 6
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 7
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- 8
Cool and Serve
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving with the fried tofu.
